Owls Win Six Events on First Night of Triple Dual

Competition resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday
In Brief: Ella Dyson, Amelia Kane, Lauren McDougall, and Zoe Spitz won their events while Imogen Meers tied for the top spot in another to highlight action for Rice on the first night of action at SMU's Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on Friday night. Rice leads North Texas (134-49) and Tulane (132-35.) and trails host SMU (88.5- 87.5) after the first 10 events.
The Details: Rice opened the competition with a victory in the 400 medley relay as the team of Spitz, Lily Cramer, Arielle Hayon, and McDougall came home in 3:43.58. Dyson then led a parade of four Owls to finish in order in the 1,000 free, winning the event in 10:01.76. Amelia Kane was second (10:06.32), Ginny Qian third (10:13.59) and Shannon Campbell fourth (10:16.16). Spitz and Meers took the top two spots in the 100 back in 54.72 and 55.85 respectively. McDougall touched first in the 200 free (1:50.24) while Dyson was third (1:52.90). Meers and SMU's Johanna Gudmundsdottir each hit the wall in 23.75 to tie in the 50 freestyle. Kane outdistanced the field in the 400 IM (4:20.99) Hayon added a second-place finish in the 100 fly (54.00). Meers, Spitz, McDougall, and Cramer closed out the night with a second-place effort in the 400 free relay.
Seth Huston: "A good first hall of the meet for the Owls. Senior's Zoe Spitz and Lauren MCDougall led the way. Our distance swimmers really set the tone in the 1000 free, led by Ella Dyson and by Amerlia Kane in the 400 IM. We are coming off a big training block and this weekend culminates the preparation portion of our season. Our staff has challenged the team to be ready to race on Saturday."
