
Doheny Named New Football Head Athletic Trainer

Deanna Doheny has been named Rice's new Associate Head Athletic Trainer, Football returning to South Main after serving as the head Football Athletic Trainer at the University of Massachusetts in 2021. She previously served as an assistant athletic trainer with the Owls for two seasons (2019 & 2020).
Dohney is responsible for managing the day-to-day health care of the Rice Owls Football team and the emergency care aspects and protocols within the Rice Sports Medicine Department. Deanna works closely with REMS on campus to promote the important working relationship between both departments in the care of student athletes.
She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University where she earned a degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine. She received her master's degree in Kinesiology from The University of Georgia where she worked with the women's tennis program. Prior to coming to Rice, Dohney was an intern athletic trainer at UAB during the Blazers' run to the 2018 Conference USA football title.
Dohney is a Board of Certification certified athletic trainer and a member of both the National Athletic Trainers' Association and College Athletic Trainers' Association. She is a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and holds additional certifications through Structure and Function Dry Needling, Owens Recovery Science Personalized Blood Flow Restriction, Functional Movement Screen L1, and Graston Technique M1.
