Forbes, Gunnarsdottir Capture Titles at C-USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Rice Owls women's track and field team earned an additional two titles and three all-conference performances on the final day of the Conference USA Championships on Sunday.
Forbes earned her 12th career C-USA championship between her track/cross country career with a victory in the 5000m, finishing in 16:28.92. Also earning a title for the Owls was junior thrower Erna Gunnarsdottir, who broke the facility record with a winning heave of 17.15m.
The Owls got an all-conference performer from Josie Taylor in the high jump, finishing second overall with a clearance of 1.76m. Other Owls to score included Caitlin Wosika in the 800m (4th-4:26.81) and 5000m (7th-17:21.73), Alyssa Balandran in the 800m (5th-2:11.28), KC Nwadei in the high jump (7th-1.70m), Taigen Hunter-Galvan in the 1500m (7th-4:30.69) and 800m (2:15.69), Justice Coutee-McCullum in the 100m hurdles (7th-13.78), Savannah Simms in the 400m Hurdles (7th-1:04.23) and Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi in the 5000m (17:19.34).
As a team the Owls placed fifth overall with 88 points.
