
Hayon Named C-USA Freshman Swimmer of the Year

Second consecutive Owl to be honored
Arielle Hayon, who swept the butterfly events at the Conference USA championship while setting one conference and two school records, has been named the C-USA Freshman Swimmer of the Year in a vote of league head coaches.
This is the second consecutive year Rice has produced the conference's top freshman. Imogen Meers was honored in 2021.
Hayon captured conference gold in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events, breaking the school and conference record in the 100 previously set by Rice's Casey Clark in 2015. She added a second gold and broke Clark's school record in the 200 butterfly and added a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle. She scored 58 points for the Owls in her individual events in addition to capturing a silver medal and another 38 points as part of the Owls' 400 medley relay. She qualified for the NCAA Championship in both butterfly events and also captured the 100 butterfly title in at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
