Bokunewicz Earns C-USA Freshman of the Week Award

DALLAS – Rice women's basketball redshirt freshman Maya Bokunewicz was recognized as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week following her record-tying weekend, the league office announced on Monday (3/7).

The State College, Pa. native played a significant role in helping the Owls secure a pair of victories to move up to fourth place in the C-USA West Division. Bokunewicz averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds while playing 35 minutes per contest, shooting 51.9 percent from the field, including a 45.0 clip from three-point territory.

Bokunewicz capped the weekend with her best game of the season, scoring a season-high 26 points and collecting 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career in an 86-48 victory over UTSA. She tied the Rice single-game school record with seven made three-pointers on 12 attempts, the most made three-pointers by a C-USA player this season during league play.

That performance came on the heels of a 14-point, 6-rebound effort in the team's 20-point victory over UTEP.

Bokunewicz joins Malia Fisher (three times) as Owls to earn C-USA Freshman of the Week honors this season.
