In Brief: Rice put up a furious fight with 19th ranked Middle Tennessee, forcing four singles matches to tiebreak sets, but the Blue Raiders held off the Owls challenge to take a 5-2 win at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday.
Doubles: After MTSU took the early advantage with a win at the second line, the doubles point was in jeopardy as the matches at the first and third lines were down to the wire, before the Blue Raiders clinched the point with a 7-5 win at the first line.
Singles: In need of four points to snap the Blue Raiders' 13-match winning streak, the Owls took three of six first sets in singles, including an 8-6 tiebreak win by Emir Sendogan at the third line. But MTSU grabbed wins at the fourth and fifth lines to take a 3-0 lead and then held off the Owls to clinch the match. Sendogan and Sumit Sarkar posted points for the Owls with wins at the second and third lines.
Up Next: The Owls will host the 63rd Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational this weekend, which features New Mexico and East Tennessee State. Play begins on Friday when the Owls and Lobos meet at noon.
