Owls Rally Falls Short against Charlotte

In Brief: Rice saw a furious comeback fall short as 49th ranked Charlotte won three of four third sets in singles to take a 5-2 win at the Boniuk Family Tennis Center on Friday. The match was moved indoors due to a persistent morning mist in Houston.
Doubles: Rice took the early advantage thanks to Dylan Heap and Sumit Sarkar grinding out a tiebreak win at the first line over Charlotte's Stefanos Savva and Coy Simon who came into the match ranked 87th in the country.
Singles: Charlotte rebounded from the loss of the doubles point by taking the first set on five of six singles courts, but Rice fired back to send three of those matches to third sets. Freshman Haoyuan Huang captured his final two sets to win his seventh straight match and improve to 11-3 on the season, but the 49ers put an end to the Owls' hopes by winning the remaining third sets.
