
Owls Drop Early Lead to ASU

Face Utah State on Saturday
In Brief: Rice grabbed the doubles point, but could not capitalize on their start as Arizona State stormed back to take a 4-1 win over the Owls in Tempe.
Doubles: The Owls opened the scoring by winning 6-4 decisions at the second two lines after ASU took the match at the first line, 7-5. Dylan Heap and AJ Valenty clinched the point with their win at the third line.
Singles: The Sun Devils stormed out of the gate, taking five of six first sets in singles. The Owls responded by forcing third sets on a pair of courts, but ASU did the same on the Owls lone first set winner. They took the lead with a pair of straight-set wins and then clinched it with a three-set win and a third victory in straight sets.
Up Next: The Owls will take on Utah State at 2 p.m. on the second day of action at the eight-team event hosted by ASU.
