ASU Invitational up next
In Brief: Rice bounced back from a hard-fought loss to Tulane on Saturday to surge past New Orleans on Sunday and take a 6-1 win.
Doubles: The first point of the day came down to a tiebreaker at the first line and after falling behind early, Sumit Sarkar and Haoyuan Huang rallied to take the tiebreak and give the Owls the early lead.
Singles: The teams split the opening sets of singles, but Karol Paluch and Eduardo Morais quickly closed out their matches to extend the lead to 3-0 while Trinity Grear and Huang each fought back to force third sets that led to eventual wins. Emir Sendogan, who needed a tiebreaker to take his third set, swiftly provided the clincher with a 6-0 win in his second set.
Efe Ustundag: "We were pretty ramped up against Tulane. We headed into the weekend thinking we had a pretty good shot this year to steal one in New Orleans from them. After having leads in doubles only to lose the point and then leaving a lot of sets on the courts in singles yesterday (in a loss), I felt like we came out a little bit flat this morning. Thankfully Sumit and Tony (Huang) managed to grab the tiebreaker after being down 4-2 to get the doubles point. We split the first six sets in singles, but thankfully we were able to jump back in the second sets."
Up Next: Rice head back on the road next weekend when they travel to Tempe, Arizona next weekend for the ASU Invitational.
