Final meet before C-USA Indoor Championships
HOUSTON, Texas - The Rice Owls women's track and field team competed in their final meet of the indoor regular season on Friday and won three events at Howie Ryan Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
In the field events, KC Nwadei established a season-best clearance of 1.71m to win the high jump while Erna Gunnarsdottir picked up her second victory of the season in the shot put with a throw of 16.75m. On the track, Alyssa Balandran was one of five Owls who recorded personal best marks in the mile, winning the event with a time of 4:55.68, the fifth-best time in Conference USA this season.
Ginnie Okafor also finished as the top collegiate performer in the triple jump, setting a personal best with a leap of 12.12m.
In total, the Owls registered nine personal best marks and three season best performances.
The Owls will next travel to Birmingham, Alabama Feb. 19-20 for the Conference USA Indoor Championships, which will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
