Shea Baker, who has anchored the Rice offensive line since his first appearance for the Owls in 2018 was joined by seven teammates in being honored as All-Conference USA selections by league coaches as released by the conference on Tuesday.
Baker was named to the second team while Jack Bradley, Ikenna Enechukwu, Jordan Dunbar, Josh Pearcy, Bradley Rozner, Trey Schuman and Clay Servin earned honorable mention recognition. In addition, Ethan Onianwa was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team.
Baker, who is scheduled to play in a school-record 55th consecutive game (54th career start) when the Owls face Southern Miss in the LendingTree Bowl on December 17, leads the Owls with 818 snaps this year and has taken 3,603 in his career. He has been called for three penalties in those 818 snaps this season.
Bradley enters the LendingTree Bowl with a career-best 27 receptions, 235 yards, and two TDs this season while playing a career-high 643 snaps, the most by any non-offensive lineman (fourth overall on the team),
Enechuckwu leads the team with 29 total pressures, including 20 hurries per PFF. He led the Owls with 8.5 TFL this year (.5 off his career best set last year).
Dunbar led the Owls with eight pass breakups this year in 11 games.
Pearcy led the team with 5.5 sacks--one more than his career total coming into this season--and tied for the team lead with a career-best 8.5 tackles for loss while ranking second on the team with 22 total pressures and third with 10 hurries.
Rozner leads the Owls with 834 yards receiving and nine TDs (both career highs) and leads C-USA (fifth nationally) with an average of 20.3 yards per catch (41/834), the best by an Owl with at least 30 receptions since Bill Howton averaged 22.6 (33/747) in 1951. He has produced five 100-yard receiving games this year, the most since James Casey (7) and Jarett Dillard (6) in 2008.
Schuman enjoyed his most productive season for the Owls despite being limited in reps by injuries. He has a career-high four sacks this year and five tackles for loss. He is third on the team with 20 total pressures in only 116 pass rushes this season.
Servin completed his fourth year as a starter and ranks second on the team with 808 snaps this year and needs just four in the LendingTree Bowl to reach a career-high.
Onianwa took over as the starter at right tackle when the Owls faced USC in the 2022 opener and is third on the team with 788 snaps.
Rice will return to the practice field later this week to begin preparations for its first bowl game since 2014 when the Owls face Southern Miss in the LendingTree Bowl on December 17 in Mobile, Alabama.
