Ashar to Join Owls in 2023-24

Owls open 2023 dual season on January 21
Rice women's tennis coach Elizabeth Schmidt announced on Thursday the sighing of Anushka Ashar from Boca Raton, Florida to a National Letter of Intent to compete with the Owls beginning with the 2023-24 season.
Ashar is listed by TennisRecruiting.com as a blue-chip recruit and ranked 24th nationally in the 2023-24 recruiting class. She was a U18 Bobby Curtis Sectionals Champion, a four-time National L3 Champion, and an L1 Winter Nationals Gold Ball Champion
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Anushka to the Rice Owl family," Schmidt said. "We knew early in the recruiting process that Anushka would be a good fit with our program as she strives for excellence both on the court and in the classroom. She is a tenacious competitor as well as a tremendous student. And, most importantly, has a high character with an optimistic attitude of gratitude. We are looking forward to Anushka's arrival on campus in August."
Ashar's future teammates will kick off their 2023 dual season on January 21st when they host the Lamar Cardinals at 1 p.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
