HOUSTON — Rice Soccer earned a pair of Conference USA awards as Jaden Roberts was named the Defensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper Bella Killgore earned her third straight Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Roberts capped off her Senior Night by scoring the only goal, and the first of her career, with just five seconds left to defeat WKU, 1-0. Roberts took a corner kick from 20 feet out and put it into the top of the net just before time expired. She also led a Rice back line that surrendered just seven shots, including three on net, in the victory.
Killgore became just the second goalkeeper in C-USA history to earn the award three straight weeks. She continued her strong play, picking up her fourth straight shutout and the seventh of the season. Killgore faced seven shots, making three saves, including a diving save to her right in the 70th minute that kept the game scoreless until the Owls won it with five seconds left. She has now shutout her opponents in the last 372:29 minutes. It is her fourth Goalkeeper of the Week award and the eighth of her career.
Rice begins is final week of the regular season tomorrow, October 26, when it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
