Eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America®
Four members of the 2020 Rice football team have been named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District® team for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Blaze Alldredge, Shea Baker, Trey Schuman and Clay Servin were named to the team for the first time in their careers and advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July. Voting for the 2020 team was moved to the end of the school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boise State led the way with five selections to the District 7 team, followed by Rice (4). No other school placed more than two players on the team.
Alldredge was a two-time winner of the George Martin Award as the Owls most valuable player, the first defensive player to win the award in consecutive seasons. He was a two-time, All-Conference USA selection a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy after leading the Owls with 47 tackles as a senior. He was named the C-USA Player of the Week after leading a Rice shutout at #15 Marshall with 10 tackles, a shared TFL, an interception and a second pass breakup.
Baker has been a mainstay on the Owls offensive line for the past three years, first at center as a freshman and at guard the last two seasons. He was named the Owls' Offensive Player of the Game for his work in the trenches during Rice's 20-0 win at #15 Marshall. He was a Rice Scholar Athlete in 2020 and a Rice Honor Athlete in 2021.
Schuman is a two-time winner of the James Glanville Award for his combination of academic and athletic achievement. He is a four-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and led the team with 4.5 tackles for loss during the abbreviated 2020 season.
Servin has been a fixture at left tackle the past two years and was a Rice honor athlete in 2021. He was the Owls Lineman of the Game for his efforts in their 30-6 win at Southern Miss.
