Fokam Qualifies for NCAA Championships with Clutch Performance

Joins Forbes, Simpson-Sullivan as NCAA qualifiers
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After a pair of fouls and down to her final attempt, Rice senior Michelle Fokam refused to be denied a third appearance in Eugene, Oregon and qualified for the NCAA Championships with a clutch fifth-place leap of 13.58m (44-6.75) in the triple jump at Saturday's NCAA West Prelims.
Fokam, from Katy, Texas, had posted five consecutive combined fouls when including her long jump performance on Thursday prior to her successful final leap in the triple jump. The All-American and 10-time C-USA champion will next compete on Saturday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
Fokam will join Grace Forbes (10,000m) and Tara Simpson-Sullivan (Hammer Throw) as Owl who have punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships.
In addition to Fokam, the Owls also received a 38th place (12.16m/39-10.75) performance from senior Maryam Hassan in the triple jump and a 40th place (47.04m) result by Julie Perez in the discus.
