
Final Home Weekend Highlighted by Mustangs and Senior Day

In Brief: The 35th ranked Rice women's tennis team (12-4) make their final appearances at GRBTC this season when the Owls host 48th ranked SMU on Saturday at 11 a.m. and then host Prairie View A&M on Sunday at 11 a.m. for Senior Day.

SMU: The Mustangs are 17-9 this season, and have won six of their last eight including wins at #50 TCU and over #49 Tulsa. This will be the 40th meeting between the two schools, but the first since 2013. Rice trails the all-time series 18-21, but has won the last three, including a grueling comeback in in the semifinals of the 2013 C-USA Championship. After the Owls won the doubles point, the Mustangs rallied to win five of six first sets in singles. The Owls battled back to win 4-1 in match that lasted nearly five hours, setting the stage for them to capture the first of their six C-USA titles the next day against Tulsa.
Prairie View: The Panthers are 8-16 heading into a doubleheader at Houston on Friday. This will be the third meeting between the schools and the first since 2009 with Rice leading 2-0. This match closed out Prairie View's regular season schedule. The Panthers, who are 6-1 in the SWAC, will head to the conference championship next weekend in New Orleans.
Senior Day: Rice will salute a pair of 2020 seniors, Michaela Haet and Linda Huang, who will take to the GRBTC courts for the final time on Sunday in addition to Priya Niezgoda, whose 2019 Senior Day was wiped out when the 2019 season was shutdown.
