Second member of women's tennis recruiting class
Rice women's tennis coach announced on Wednesday the addition of Saara Orav to the Owls 2021 recruiting class.
A native of Vijandi, Estonia, Orav brings a wealth of experience to South Main, both in tournament play and as a member of the Estonian Fed Cup team for three years in the Europe/Africa Zone Group.
Orav has a career-high junior ITF rating of 248. She has captured a pair of championships in four ITF junior finals appearances in singles three championships in five doubles finals. In ITF circuit paly, Orav has three career doubles finals appearances and one championship. She has a career-high UTR of 11.24.
She is the second member of the Owls 2021 recruiting class, joining Allison Zipoli who signed during the fall.
"We are very excited about Saara joining our team," Schmidt said. "She has a wealth of international playing experience and her tennis credentials speak for themselves. In addition, Saara is hard-working, driven, and a team player. Throughout the recruiting process we knew Saara would be a great fit at Rice and we are looking forward to her arrival on campus in August."
Schmidt's current Owls, who are tied for 34th in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, return to action on Saturday when they host Memphis at 11 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
