In Brief: The Rice men's tennis team returns to the road for the final time in the 2021 regular season when they travel to Tennessee for matches against defending C-USA champion Middle Tennessee on Friday (5 p.m.) and Vanderbilt on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The road trip originally was slated for three matches, but Saturday's match at Tennessee State was canceled due to a facility scheduling conflict.
Middle Tennessee: The Blue Raiders, who captured the C-USA title in 2019, are 3-2 this season, including a split of two matches at the Columbus Regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Rice and MTSU were both training at the GRBTC last year in advance of a dual match schedule for Friday the 13th before the season was postponed. This will be the 12th meeting between the two, with the Blue Raiders leading the series 6-5 thanks to a three-match winning streak. Rice is 4-1 at the Adams Tennis Complex, including a 3-0 record on the way to winning the 2017 C-USA title.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores are 1-0 this season heading into a Friday night match with Belmont. This is the fifth meeting between the schools, with Rice holding a 3-1 lead. Vanderbilt took a 6-1 win in Nashville in 2019 in the most recent meeting.
