Action opens at 4 p.m. Friday
The Rice swim team officially opens the 2021-22 NCAA season on Friday with the return of the Owls' Fall Splash. This year's event will feature a head-to-head matchup with the Houston Cougars over two days of action and also features an opportunity for Owls' fans to help support the promotion of swimming to underserved communities.
Action gets under way at the Rice Competition Pool at 4 p.m on Friday and resumes at 11 a.m. on Saturday. After Friday's action concludes, fans will be able to either take a dip in the Owls home pool or take a quick trip down a lane with 25 yards of butterfly by making a donation to Float2Fly.
The Houston-area 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded to build lifelong love and respect for the water, prevent water-related accidents, and increase swim participation by providing and promoting water safety education, swim lessons, and competitive swim programming to underserved populations.
Rice heads into the new season looking to build on the strong end to the 2020-21 campaign that saw the Owls compile their highest point total in seven years at the Conference USA Championship (905.5) and produce the conference's freshman swimmer of the year (Imogen Meers).
Last month the the Rice swimmers finished second at the CSCAA Collegiate Open Water Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. Owls' head coach Seth Huston, now in his 20th season at the helm of the program, has liked what he's seen of the team's training so far. He previews the home-opening meet in the above video.
