Rice Golf Ties for Second at Bentwater Intercollegiate

Montgomery, Texas — The Rice Golf team had its best round of the season, firing a two-under 282 to tie for second-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
The Owls finished 15-over par, tied with Midland. Sam Houston won the team tournament at five-under par.
Freshman Raghav Chugh tied for third-place at two-under par, finishing with a 72. He was one of six golfers in the tournament to finish under par. It is his first career top five finish and he's the first freshman with a top-three finish since Alex Levy at the Rice Intercollegiate in 2013-14.
Seniors Jake Benson and Harrison Hineline tied for 14th-place at two-over par. Benson recorded a 71, his third round of par or better this year and the 45th of his career. Hineline closed the tournament with a 77.
Senior Jack Diamond was seven-over par, tying for 25th-place after carding a 73. Junior Thomas Bockholt III had his best round of the year, firing a 68 to tie for 34th-place at 10-over par. It was his first round in the 60's this year and the third of his career and his first round of par or better this year and the sixth of his career.
Sophomore Rodrigo Martin carded a 71 to finish 14-over par in a 47th-place tie. It was his first round of par or better this year and the seventh of his career.
Sam Houston's Chad Sewell earned medalist honors at 14-under par, 11 strokes in front of second-place Shaheen Momin of Houston Baptist.

"That round was the breakout round that we've been waiting for. It's everything we've been training to do. We put the ball in position, were mentally locked in and had great speed on our putts. We made some progress today as a team. Now it's back to work."
NEXT UP
The Owls will close out the fall campaign when it travels to Loxley, Ala., for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 30-31.
