Golf Closes First Day of Steelwood Collegiate Invitational

Loxley, Ala. — The Rice golf team is tied for 12th-place with a score of 593 (304-289) after two rounds of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
Senior Jack Diamond and sophomore Rodrigo Martin are tied for 47th-place at five-over par. Diamond opened with a 78 before closing with a season-low 71. It is his first round of par or better this year and the fourth of his career. Martin began the day with a 77 but followed it with a 72. It is his second round of par or better and the eighth of his career.
Senior Jake Benson and junior Thomas Bockholt III are tied for 56th-place at six-over par. Benson started the day with a 79 but posted a 71 in the second round. It is his team-leading fourth round of par or better this year and the 46th of his career. Bockholt carded consecutive 75's. Freshman Raghav Chugh is seven-over par in a 62nd-place tie after rounds of 74-77.
No. 49 Missouri leads the team competition at 17-under par, five strokes in front of host South Alabama. Mississippi State's Ford Clegg leads the individual competition at 10-under par, three strokes in front of USA's Jacob LeCroy.
