In Brief: The Rice women's tennis team (5-5) continues its longest homestand of the season by hosting UTSA on Friday at 1 p.m. and #19 Baylor at 11 a. m. on Sunday as part of a combined dual match with the Rice men, who will face SMU. The combined dual has been branded "Throwback Sunday" as the Owls will welcome a pair of former Southwest Conference rivals to the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Doubling Up: Combined dual matches have been an annual feature at GRBTC since it opened in 2015. The combined matches showcase the flexibility of the GRBTC to fully support two collegiate dual matches at the same time, including live video and real-time scoring available on all 12 courts. The concept debuted in 2015 when the men hosted San Diego and the women battled Memphis. The following year saw a pair of concurrent matches--including a memorable dual with the combined squads from LSU. The Rice women are 5-2 when playing at the same time as the Rice men.
UTSA: The Roadrunners (5-5) will face the Owls on Friday and then Houston on Sunday. This will be the 20th meeting the schools and the first since Rice took a 4-0 decision in the opening round of the 2017 Conference USA Championship in Denton, Texas. Rice has won the previous 19 meetings, including the only previous matchup at George R. Brown (6-1 in 2017).
Baylor: The Bears (7-1 & 19th the Oracle/ITA rankings) opened the season by winning their first seven dual matches--including a sweep of Ole Miss and Mississippi State on the road--before dropping a 4-3 decision to Northwestern at home last Sunday. This is the 10th meeting between the schools since 2014 (they met three times in both 2014 and 2015) and the Bears have won the last 14 matches in the series dating back to a 5-4 win by Rice on April 20, 1995 in Waco. This is the third meeting between the two at GRBTC, the last a 4-0 win by Baylor in 2018.
Owls Notables:
The Schedule Ahead: The Owls remaining schedule features three teams currently in the Oracle/ITA national rankings: (#50 Kansas, 3/7; #42 Washington State, 3/15 and @#11 Princeton (Williamsburg, VA).
