HOUSTON - For the first time in program history, the No. 22 Rice Owls volleyball team will enter Conference USA play as a ranked team as they begin their quest for a second straight conference title. The Owls (11-1) are coming off a week in which they defeated then No. 3 Texas and TCU within a four-day span. This Friday the Owls welcome UTEP (7-6) to Tudor Fieldhouse in the C-USA opener with first serve set for 6 p.m. The Owls lead the all-time series over the Miners 38-10, which includes a streak of 17 consecutive wins over UTEP at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Owls then hit the road on Sunday when they travel to North Texas for a 1 p.m. match against the Mean Green (6-6). Rice leads the all-time series 12-5, which includes a 3-1 C-USA semifinals victory over the Mean Green last season.

- Rice is currently tied with SFA for the fourth-longest active home win streak in the nation, having won 15 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
- On Monday, the Owls were ranked in the AVCA Top-25 for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 22.
- The Owls currently rank Top-20 in the NCAA in winning percentage (6th-.917), digs per set (13th-17.37), kills per set (15th-14.21), opponents hitting percentage (18th-.157), and assists per set (19th-13.00).
- Junior outside hitter Nicole Lennon was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, tying a league record for her fourth straight league honor. Earlier this season, Lennon became the 17th player in Rice history to eclipse 1,000 career kills. The Katy, Texas native ranks sixth in the NCAA in kills per set (5.12), eighth in total kills (215), ninth in points per set (5.40), 14th in attacks per set (12.36), and 32nd in total attacks (519).
- Senior libero Lee Ann Cunningham ranks second in C-USA with 4.81 digs per set and third in total digs (207). Cunningham currently ranks sixth among active NCAA Division I players in career digs with 1,872. She's just 29 digs away from surpassing Tracey Lam for the most digs in Rice history during the 25-point scoring rally era.
- Sophomore middle blocker Anota Adekunle ranks fourth in C-USA in hitting percentage (.384) while senior middle blocker Grace Morgan is seventh (.344).
- Reigning C-USA Coach of the Year Genny Volpe is in her 16th season with the Owls and is the school's all-time leader in totals wins (297) and winning percentage (.623). She notched her eighth, 20-plus win season for the Owls in 2018.
