Owls first five runners place in top-20
HOUSTON – The Rice Owls men's cross country team placed their top five runners inside the Top-20 to earn 46 total points and win the 10-team field at Friday's season-opening Rice Invitational.
Juniors Alex Topini and Hociel Landa led the way, finishing third (19:51.50/4:58m) and fourth (19:51.57/4:58m) respectively, while sophomore Andrew Abikhaled also placed in the top 10 with an eighth place (20:03.60/5:01m) result in the 6k race.
Freshman Travis Dowd (20:09.12/5:02m) and junior Matthew Murray (20:19.44/5:05m) finished 12th and 19th, respectively.
Ace Castillo (22nd-20:28.56), Adolfo Carvalho (24th-20:30.69), Connor Meaux (38th-20:59.66), Daniel Cohen (40th-21:05.94), Jason Bugg (52nd-21:30.73), Keaton Blazer (55th-21:42.90), George Elsesser (59th-21:52.49), and Alex Dunbar (64th-22:02.20) rounded out the field for the Owls.
Rice's next race will come Saturday, Oct. 5 when the team travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Chile Pepper Festival.
