Texas Tech Holds Off Owls

Owls host No. 23 Pepperdine on Friday
The Lead: The Rice women's tennis team saw their rally from a loss in doubles come up short as 30th ranked Texas Tech held off the 38th ranked Owls, 4-2 at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock on Sunday.
Doubles: Anna Bowtell and Victoria Smirnova picked up their sixth win of the season with a 6-2 win at the third line, but Tech took the point with wins at the first two positions.
Singles: In need of four singles wins, Rice picked up two right away as Anastasia and Victoria Smirnova raced to wins in straight sets. Anna Bowtell took her first set on court four, but the Raiders captured the other three first sets. Priya Niezgoda kept the door open for a fourth point for Rice by forcing a third set on court five, only to see Tech's Olivia Peet rebound to clinch the match with a win in third set.
Up Next: Rice returns home next weekend for a pair of 11 a.m. matches. The Owls will host No. 23 Pepperdine on Friday and Dartmouth on Sunday. They will wrap up the homestand with by hosting Johns Hopkins on March 19 at 2 p.m.
