Volleyball Wins 13th Straight, Sweeps Florida Atlantic

Owls to face No. 22 WKU on Sunday
HOUSTON – The No. 17 Rice Owls volleyball team maintained their laser focus by recording their 13th consecutive victory with a sweep (25-23, 25-19, 25-13) over Florida Atlantic Friday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice (22-1, 11-0) extended the nation's third-longest active home win streak with their 21st consecutive victory at Tudor Fieldhouse and have now won 33 of 34 sets played during the C-USA season.
The Owls outhit FAU (13-9, 7-4) .263 to .078 and held a 49-28 advantage in kills. Junior outside hitter Nicole Lennon tallied her team-leading 15th double-double of the season with 15 kills (.324) and 13 digs while Anota Adekunle and Ellie Bichelmeyer each posted eight kills.
Defensively, Rice was led by senior libero Lee Ann Cunningham's match-high 19 digs while setters Adria Martinez (25 assists) and Carly Graham (17 assists) helped orchestrate the offense by totaling 42 of Rice's 45 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
FAU opened up a 13-8 advantage but Rice responded with a 10-5 run to pull even 18-18. Rice fell behind again late, 22-20, but kills from Muse, Cunningham, Adekunle and a pair of FAU errors pushed the Owls to a 25-23 victory. Lennon led all players with six kills in the set while Adekunle and Bichelmeyer each added four more.
Set 2
Rice took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 victory behind a stingy defensive effort, limiting FAU to a -.026 hitting percentage. FAU posted more errors (8) than kills (7) while Lennon added seven more kills to lead Rice.
Set 3
Rice put the match away with a dominant 25-13 victory in the final frame with six different players recording at least one kill. Senior Tori Woogk came off the bench and led all players with five kills on six attacks while Martinez dished out nine assists.

The Owls welcome in No. 22 WKU (25-1, 11-0) in the first ever Top-25 game played at either Autry Court or Tudor Fieldhouse in any sport. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on CUSAtv and a special pre-match ceremony will take place to honor Rice's six seniors for Senior Day.
