DENTON, Texas — On the eve of competing at the annual Conference USA Soccer Championship, the Rice trio of Mijke Roelfsema, Delaney Schultz and Lianne Mananquil earned all-league accolades the C-USA office on Tuesday (Nov. 5).
The 2019 C-USA soccer awards were determined by a vote of the league's 14 head coaches. Roelfsema and Schultz were named to the C-USA second team. Mananquil was named to the C-USA Third Team. The Roelfsema-Shultz duo were 1-2, respectively, on the team in minutes played as a defender and midfielder. Roelfsema anchored a young Owl backline that helped post seven shutouts. Schultz followed a steady rookie season in 2018 where she was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team with five goals and four assists as a sophomore. Just one day ago (Monday) Mananquil was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team. The Owls' senior midfielder from Jacksonville, Fla., scored a goal and had five assists in helping Rice earn the No. 3 seed at the conference tournament.
The Rice soccer team is next in action against league foe Middle Tennessee on Wednesday in the opening round of the C-USA Championship. Start time against the Blue Raiders is set for 4:30 pm at the Mean Green Soccer Complex in Denton.
The league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament is on the line at the week-long, eight-team, single-elimination event. The tournament's championship final is scheduled for Nov. 10 at 1 pm, and slated for a live broadcast by ESPN3. A full listing of the 2019 C-USA Soccer All-Conference honorees is as follows:
