Rice defeats CC Basketball Academy, 99-95

Five players scored in double-figures as Rice moved to 2-0 on its Spain Tour with a 99-95 victory over CC Basketball Academy, Monday night.

Graduate Jack Williams led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Trey Murphy III had 15 points on five three-pointers. Sophomore Josh Parrish scored 14 points, junior Tim Harrison had 12 points and five rebounds and freshman Drew Peterson had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Freshman Payton Moore added 10 rebounds and nine assists and junior Robert Martin grabbed 11 boards.

Rice again started off slow as it made just one of its first eight shots. However, after trailing by five points early, the Owls came back, with Harrison giving them their first lead of the game with a layup as the Owls went on a 15-5 run to take a 20-15 lead. However, CCBA scored the final four points of the quarter to pull within one.

The Owls started the second quarter on a 10-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by Murphy III. Rice eventually took an 11-point lead, its largest of the game, with four minutes left in the half before going into halftime with a 46-38 lead.

CC Basketball Academy came out firing in the third quarter, pulling to within three points just three minutes into the game. Rice pushed its lead to nine, but seven straight points cut the lead to two with under a minute to play. However, Parrish hit his only three of the game at the buzzer to send Rice into the final stanza with a 70-65 lead.

Rice started the fourth quarter by pushing its lead to 10 points. But, CCBA slowly chipped away at the deficit before finally tying the game on a pair of free throws with 3:58 to play. Rice pushed its lead back to five points before Adams sealed the game, hitting three-of-four free throws.

Rice will leave for Barcelona tomorrow morning before playing its final game Wednesday night against Barcelona All Star (8 p.m. local/1 p.m. CT).
