Second-Straight Week For Owls To Earn Award
Bui helped the Owls' swim team post three-straight dual meet wins last weekend, including a head-to-head victory over defending C-USA champion FIU on Saturday (Oct. 20). She won 50-yard butterfly over 14 competitors at the Denver Dual-A-Pool-Ooza with a time of 25.38, the eighth-fastest mark in the country so far this season. Bui placed second out of a field of 16 swimmers in the 100-butterfly with a time of 56.26, just off her own C-USA event-leading time. The Houston native (Kempner High School) was the top finisher in the head-to-head dual meet with FIU in the 100-IM (58.47), and she broke up a 1-2 finish for the Panthers with a second place finish in the 100-backstroke (58.39). Individually Bui also competed in the 200-butterfly (2:07.91) and 200-IM (2:09.82) at the two-day competition in the Mile High City. She also swam on three Rice 'A' relays to help lead the Owls to dual meet wins over FIU (123-77), former C-USA foe Tulane (132-89) and meet host Denver (107-95).
It is the first time in Bui's career to be named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week. FIU's Maha Gouda was named the league's Diver of the Week.
As a team Rice swimming remained unbeaten through its first four meets of the season. The Owls are next in action at the annual Phill Hansel Invitational Meet on Nov. 16-18 across town at the University of Houston.
