The Rice men's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of the George R. Brown Tennis Center and swept a pair of matches against New Orleans and Texas Rio Grande Valley on Saturday by identical 4-0 scores.
Rice head coach Efe Ustundag was happy to see his team rebound from a pair of road setbacks to San Diego and Stanford last week while at the same time getting some valuable match time for several members of the team.
"It was a solid day at the office," Ustundag said. "It's always a little unnerving when you sit guys who are consistent winners, but it's good to challenge the other guys as well. I was glad that doubles went as well as it did and we had good leadership at the top of the lineup."
Junior Zach Yablon, who has missed nearly all of the 2015-16 campaign with an injury, picked up a pair of wins in his first dual action of the year.
"It's always good to get as many guys into match play as possible and that is one of the main reasons we schedule doubleheaders. It allows us to keep everyone sharp. It was good to see Zach back on the court. Unfortunately his first match only went three games because of an injury to his opponent, but in his second match, I was happy to see him get out there and get a win."
The Owls improved to 14-4 on the season and their 14 wins are two more than their final win total from last season.
They will face a stern road test next weekend when they travel to College Station to take on No. 7 Texas A&M on March 20.
