Win over Texas State Opens Homestand for Owls

Solomiya Zinko did not drop a game on her way to her fourth consecutive win in singles to lead the Rice women's tennis team to a 6-1 win over Texas State at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston on Sunday.
After splitting a pair of matches on the road last weekend, the 32nd ranked Owls jumped out to a quick advantage by taking the doubles point and then saw Emily Smith, Zinko and Alison Ho stake out straight set wins to clinch the match, dropping only six combined games.
Katherine Ip, who came into the weekend ranked 31st in singles, kept her singles record perfect by improving to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pippa Carr. Lindsey Hodge, the Owls other nationally ranked player in singles (81st) had a tougher time, needed a third deciding set to down Eva Dench 6-2, 5-7, 10-7.
The Owls will continue their homestand when they host Brown and New Mexico in dual action next weekend.
