
Owls Storm Past Huskies After Rain Delay

After a lengthy rain delay, the Rice women's tennis team race to wins in five of six singles matches against Washington to close out day two of Texas A&M's David Kent Invitational at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station on Saturday
Rice opened round robin play in the morning by taking all three doubles matches, two against TCU and one against Stephen F. Austin. Rains moved in shortly after the conclusion of doubles delaying singles until Saturday evening.
Once on the court, the Owls faced off against the Huskies in singles, winning four straight sets by Wendy Zhang, Linsey Hodge, Savannah Durkin and Fernanda Astete . Alison Ho fought off a first set loss to come back and win in three sets to move the Owls mark in singles to a combined 11-2 in the first two days.
"Our team showed a lot of fight and resilience tonight," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "It was nice to see us handle the challenge so well."
Play in the Kent Invitational concludes with a final round of doubles and singles on Sunday.
