The Rice swim team is ranked No. 24 in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.com, the publication announced this week.
So far in the young season the Owl swimmers have posted some solid individual times up and down roster. In addition to sophomore Marie-Claire Schillinger already recording an NCAA provisional mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:14.90 that ranks eleventh in the nation, her 1:02.90 in the 100-breaststroke is the 19th-fastest in the country. Junior Jaecey Parham's 2:03.32 in the 200-individual medley is the 26th-best time in the nation and Kaitlyn Swinney's 4:24.23 in the 400-IM ranked 30th overall.
Two Owls who train together in the distance events, sophomore Hanna Huston and true freshman Sarah Nowaski, are 27th and 28th in the nation (respectively) in the rugged 1,000-freestyle. Versatile Alicia Caldwell is in the nation's Top 35 in three different events, including the 200-backstroke (31st, 2:00.79), 100-freestyle (32nd, 50.98) and 200-free (34th, 1:50.53).
Rice's success has not been limited to just individual events. Three different Rice relays have jumped into among the Top 20 listings in Division I swimming. The Owls' 400-medley relay (3:46.29) is ranked 15th, while the 200-freestyle relay is 16th (1:34.47) and the 400-free relay (3:25.43) is 18th in the nation.
