
Hodge Earns Berth in Midland Invite Singles Final

Sophomore Lindsey Hodge ground outlasted top seeded Sarah Dvorah of Texas Tech in three sets to move to the singles championship match of the Racquet Club of Midland Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
Hodge, who opened her play on Saturday with a straight set win over Angeles de los Rios of Texas Arlington, took the first over Dvorah 6-4 then saw the Red Raider sophomore rebound to take the second set by the same score. But Hodge rebounded to earn a spot in the finals with a 6-4 win in the third.
She will face Dvorah's Texas Tech teammate, Felicity Malthy in Sunday's final at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Hodge is the first Rice finalist in the women's singles event since Natalie Beazant won the title in her sophomore year (2012).
In doubles action, Rice's Alison Ho and Emily Smith, who were the top seed, fell in the quarterfinals, dropping a 7-5 decision to UTA"s Astrid Gehre and Rios.
