Owls Tame Bobcats, 6-1

The Rice women's tennis team raced to its third consecutive dual victory of the season, downing Texas State 6-1 on a breezy and brisk afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Owls (4-6) won for the 21st time in as many career outings against the Bobcats (3-4) by taking the doubles point and then straight set wins by Natalie Beazant, Savannah Durkin, Katherine Ip and Solomiya Zinko, and a three-set verdict by Lindsey Hodge. Ip delivered the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ana Laura Gutierrez.
Beazant breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over TSU's Monica Pieratt to win her fourth straight dual match and raise her season mark to 7-1. The 25th ranked singles player in the country raised her career record to 102-30.
Durkin and Zinko both extended their current win streaks to three matches for the Owls who will hit the road next weekend for matches at 12th ranked Oklahoma State on Friday and 57th ranked Tulsa on Sunday. Those matches open a stretch of 10 straight duals against teams currently ranked in the ITA's top 75.
Rice returns to the GRBTC on March 15 when they host Memphis as part of a concurrent dual with the Rice men's team who will be hosting San Diego at the same time. First serves are set for noon.
