Four Owls Advance to Round of 32

Four singles players and a pair of doubles teams won twice on Thursday to advance to the Round of 32 at the USTA/Texas Regional Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University. Rice finished with a combined record of 10-2 in singles and 5-1 in doubles.
Play continues on Friday morning, with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles on the schedule.
Katherine Ip, Alison Ho, Solomiya Zinko and Fernanda Astete each won twice in singles on the opening day of competition to move on while Savannah Durkin and Emily Smith split their opening matches.
Ip will face Mia King of TCU in the third round while her teammates will all face seeded players. Ho will meet 10th seed Domenica Gonzalez of Texas A&M, Zinko will take on 15th seed Felicity Maltby of Texas Tech and Astete is matched up against sixth seed Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech.
In doubles, two of three teams advanced. Ho and Ip and Zinko and Smith moved on to the round of 32, while Durkin and Astete split their two matches.
Ho and Ip are set to face Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner of TCU while Zinko and Smith will meet seventh seed Sarah Dvorak and sabrina federici of Texas Tech. Both matches are scheduled for 2:30 on Friday.
