Owls Sweep Sunday Singles

Fernanda Astete, Savannah Durkin, Emily Smith and Solomiya Zinko closed out the SMU Invitational in Dallas with an sweep of Sunday matches to close out the weekend with a combined 8-4 record.
Durkin downed Lois Wagenvoort of UTEP in the White singles consolation final, 6-4, 6-1. Smith took the Red singles consolation final with a 7-6 win over UTEP's Vivienne Kulicke. Zinko outlated Whitney Williams of ACU 7-5, 7-6 in the Blue singles consolation final. Astete won her third place match in the Pony singles flight, dropping Victoria Kareh of Incarnante Word 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, Durkin and Smith captured the consolation final of the White doubles flight against Rachel Sadiq and Victoria Kareh of Incarnate Word, 6-2. Astete and Zinko were edged 6-4 by Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams of ACU in the third place Blue doubles match on Sunday.
The Owls will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to College Station to compete it the ITA/Texas Regional, October 22-26.
