HOUSTON, Texas - Rice men's cross country finished second, finishing behind only McNeese State, in the 39th annual Rice Invitational Meet on Friday at the Rice Intramural Fields.
William Firth led the way for the Owls with a fourth place (17:15) finish while Adam Davidson placed sixth (17:20). Marco Ruiz finished in the top 20 with a 15th place (17:38) finish.
"We were able to come out and put together a strong showing tonight," Rice head coach Jon Warren said. "It was great to see Will get off to a good start and I think Davidson surprised us a little bit with that top-10 finish."
Harry Sagel (25th-17:56), Meron Fessahaie (26th-17:57), Griffin Lee (32nd-117) and Aneesh Sampath (36th-18:14) finished in that order.
The Owls, who were ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings, finished ahead of third-ranked Lamar and fifth-ranked Stephen F. Austin.
The Rice men will next run in the Rim Rock Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas on October 4.
