Firth helped guide the Owls to a fourth place finish as a team (79 points), finishing behind only champion North Texas (50 points), UTEP (58 points) and Middle Tennessee (67 points).
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Firth earned First-Team All-Conference honors by finishing with a time of 24:29 in the 8K race. The last Owl to finish higher than Firth was Marcel Hewamudalige's second place result in 2005. Firth improved upon his 10th place finish (25:33) at the same course in last year's C-USA Championships as well.
"We ran a very good race today," Rice head coach Jon Warren said. "They ran fast but we had one injury that held us a back a bit. Our top five runners were all non-seniors so we feel very good about the future of this program and now we get ready for regionals here in a couple of weeks."
Joining Firth for all-conference honors was sophomore Adam Davidson, who earned Second-Team All-Conference honors with an 11th place finish in 24:47. The Owls had a pair of freshmen earn Third-Team All-Conference honors in Steve Booker (18th-25:09) and Brad Dohner (20th-25:10).
Others runners for the Owls were freshman Marco Ruiz (24th-25:17), sophomore Harry Sagel (26th-25:23), junior Meron Fessahaie (30th-25:34), junior Aneesh Sampath (39th-25:55) and freshman Imran Bell (41st-25:58).
The Owls will now have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. (CT).
