
Four Incoming Owls Named High School All-Americans

HOUSTON - A total of four incoming Owl freshmen were named High School All-Americans by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) on the organization's final list of award winners for 2011.
Rice is well-represented on the NISCA's prep All-America selections. A total of four of the honorees, who are now Owl freshmen, were recognized in seven different individual swim events for posting times that were among the Top 100 HS marks nation. The All-America selections included Rice rookies Marissa Konicke, Madison Livingston, Casey Clark and Erin Flanigan. Clark and Flanigan both recently qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials and were prep All-Americans in the same event (200-yard freestyle). Konicke and Livingston finished among the national high school leaders in the 50-freestyle, and 100-breaststroke, respectively.
Last spring Rice won the 2011 Conference USA championship in swimming, the Owls' first league title in the history of the program. The team is entering its third year of competing and training on-campus at the fantastic Rice Aquatics Center.
The Rice swim team opens the 2011-2012 collegiate season at home with a C-USA dual meet against longtime rival SMU on October 15. The start time is set for 11:30 am at the Rice Aquatics Center.
