Tulsa Outlasts Owls, 5-2

The Rice men's tennis team took C-USA rival Tulsa to the limit before dropping a 5-2 decision at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa on Friday night.
The matchup of C-USA's top-ranked programs who have reached the finals in every conference championship since the Owls joined the league in 2005, featured a doubles point decided in the 16th game and singles matches that went three sets in five of six positions before Tulsa captured the win.
The Golden Hurricane and Owls split the first two doubles matches before Tulsa's 24th ranked duo of Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling came back to defeat Harry Fowler and Oscar Podlewski, 9-7.
After Tulsa extended the lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, the Owls forced the remaining five singles matches to third sets. After dropping the opening set to 99th ranked Japie De Klerk, Rice's Peter Frank stormed back to take a 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2. Christian Saravia added the Owls second point, recovering from a second-set loss to down Grant Ive 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 decision.
The Owls will wrap up their road trip when they face the 26th ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday morning.
