Blanking of UCF Sends Owls Back to C-USA Semis

The Rice women's tennis team blanked host UCF 4-0 in their opening match of the 2011 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday, setting up a showdown with the top-seeded Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday at 11 a.m. (central). All matches are being held at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.
The Owls made quick work of their hosts, racing out to take the doubles point thanks to wins by Rebekka Hänle and Ana Guzman at No. 1 and Daniella Trigo and Jessica Jackson at No. 3.
When singles play began, Jackson continued her strong play at the end of her senior year with a win at No. 3 in straight sets. The win was Jackson's sixth in her last seven singles matches. Ana Guzman and Dominique Harmath then followed with straight-set wins of their own to close out the match and send the Owls (14-9) to their ninth consecutive berth in the conference semifinals.
The Owls have their last six matches to Tulsa dating back to a win in 2006. The Hurricane downed the Owls 5-2 earlier this season in Tulsa and eliminated the Owls in last year's semifinals, 4-2.
