Louisiana College v Rice Game Book
HOUSTON - While the weather has cooled to some extent in South Texas, the Rice Owls came back from a 10-day break for finals Wednesday and heated Tudor Fieldhouse to the century mark.
Led by a 20-point, 16-rebound double-double by junior forward Arsalan Kazemi and a complete team effort in which every Rice player to see the court either had a field goal or an assist, the Owls defeated Louisiana College 109-51 to begin a three-game stretch over the next six days.
Hitting the century mark was a team first for a Ben Braun-coached Rice team as the Owls tallied the fourth-most points in school history. The 58-point win tied for the third-largest margin of victory for a Rice team. The 109 points was the most by a Rice team since the Owls defeated Paul Quinn College 118-66 back on Nov. 14, 2006.
With the win, Rice improved to 7-2 and plays host to Lamar Saturday night at 7. The Owls wrap up the home stand on Monday, playing host to Temple in a game which will be televised by CSS and tip off at 8 p.m.
Louisiana College is now 4-2.
In the Owls' last game before the break, Kazemi managed to make just 4-of-10 shots from the free throw line. Against Louisiana College, he was perfect on 12 attempts to go along with 4-for-6 shooting from the field. He also had four steals and three assists in just 21 minutes of play.
Freshman point guard Dylan Ennis scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both career highs, while fellow rookie Julian DeBose scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds to also set a new pair of career standards.
Veterans Connor Frizzelle and Tamir Jackson each scored 11 points for the Owls.
Rice, which led 58-21 at the break, shot better than 50 percent for both halves and finished the game shooting at a 52.9 percent clip.
The Owls held Louisiana College to 28.8 percent shooting on the night and the Wildcats made just 4-of-29 three-point attempts (13.8 percent).
Louisiana College was led by Korey Salmon's 16 points while Jarrod Jackson finished with 10.
