The NCAA released its latest Ratings Power Index (R.P.I.) for women's soccer on Wednesday (Oct. 5) and the Rice Owls have climbed into the National Top 25.
With an 8-3-1 record and the program's best start to a season since 2007, Rice's soccer R.P.I. was ranked 24th in the country. The NCAA R.P.I. is based on wins, strength of schedule, and opponents' strength of schedule. The R.P.I. is the main criteria used by the NCAA selection committee to pick the at large selections to the 64-team NCAA Tournament (which begins in early November).
The Owls swept a two-game road-swing last weekend, but the team still has two more tough C-USA road games to play on Oct. 7-9. Rice next plays a C-USA match at Colorado College on Oct. 7, followed by a league game at UTEP on Oct. 9. The Blue & Gray returns for the final two home games of the regular season on Oct. 14 & 16.
