- Baylor scored 20 unanswered points in a lightning-delayed first half en route to a 30-13 win over Rice.
- Rice captains for the game were Taylor Dupree, Willie Garley, Kramer Lucio and Scott Mitchell. Baylor won the toss and deferred to the second half. Rice elected to receive to start the game and defended the north goal to begin the game.
- On its first offensive series, Rice drove 55 yards on 14 plays capped by a 42-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. The drive marked the third time in four games this season the Owls scored on their first offensive series. Boswell also kicked a 42-yard field goal on the Owls' first series against Texas in the season opener.
- Boswell made two field goals (42 and 43 yards) against Baylor to move into a tie for 10th in field goals made in a season. He now has nine field goals, tying Joel Baxter (1981), Clint Parsons (1988) and Mike Ruff (1995). The season record for field goals is 17 set by James Hamrick in 1985.
- A lightning delay began at 7:50 p.m. with 12:45 to play in the second quarter. The delay lasted an hour and seven minutes. The delay began with lightning in the distance before a hard, steady rain sent fans to the concourse.
- The weather delay marked the first during a Rice game since the 2007 opener against Nicholls State. On Sept. 1, 2007, David Bailiff's first game as the Owls' head coach was marred by a pair of delays for lightning. The first stoppage lasted 59 minutes in the first quarter while the second delay lasted one hour and 15 minutes in the second half. The 7 p.m. game ended at 12:06 a.m.
- On Baylor's first offensive series after the lightning delay, Rice linebacker Justin Hill sacked Baylor's Robert Griffin III for a four-yard loss on 3rd-and-6 from the Baylor 24. The play marked Hill's first sack of the season and second of his career.
- In the first two minutes of the third quarter, Chris Jammer forced a fumble that led to a turnover. Just three plays later (after a Baylor interception), Jammer got the ball back for the Owls when he picked off a pass at the Baylor 44. The interception was the second of Jammer's career. His first came with 11 seconds to play against Memphis, a 69-yard return for a touchdown to give Rice a 42-35 road victory.
- Corey Frazier registered double-figure tackles for the second straight game. After a 10-tackle performance against Northwestern, the sophomore had a career-high 12 tackles and recovered a fumble in the Baylor game.
- Nick Fanuzzi completed his first six passes of the game for 29 yards. His seventh attempt was almost intercepted by Byron Landor but dropped. Fanuzzi came right back and completed his eighth pass for three yards to Luke Willson. Fanuzzi finished the game 27-of-38 passes for 204 yards.
- Junior tight end Brent Hotard and freshman wide receiver Klein Kubiak both posted their first, multiple-reception games. Hotard finished with four catches for 42 yards. Kubiak had three receptions for 35 yards.
- Sam McGuffie's 11-yard touchdown run with 5:57 to play helped extend the Owls' streak of games scoring a touchdown to 68 contests. McGuffie had 64 rushing yards on 14 carries. McGuffie also equaled a Rice season high for receptions with seven in the game for yards.
