Oscar Podlewski came back from a first-set loss to defeat Tulsa's Alastair Barnes 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 and help No. 42 Rice secure a 4-3 win over No. 31 Tulsa Friday at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
With the win, Rice improved to 11-9 while the Golden Hurricane dropped to 14-8.
Rice found itself down 1-0 after losing the doubles point. Podlewski and teammate Polyakov actually had a late 6-5 lead over Philip Stephens and Turpin before the Golden Hurricane tandem came back to win, 8-6.
With three straight Rice singles wins including a 6-4, 6-1 victory by No. 47 Bruno Rosa over No 55 Marcelo Arevalo the Owls needed just one more victory to secure the match win.
Podlewski avenged his earlier loss in doubles play closing out the final set for the victory and the decisive point.
Rice continues a weekend home stand on Sunday when the Owls play host to No. 21 Oklahoma. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start.
