The 41st-ranked Oklahoma Sooners started quickly and never looked back, taking four of the first five points to clinch their dual against the 35th ranked Rice Owls on Friday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
The Sooners blitzed the Owls to take the doubles point, then took straight-set wins at the No. 3, No. 6 and No.4 singles to clinch the match.
Rice freshman Isamu Tachibana put the Owls on the board, taking his match at No. 5 in straight sets. The Owls then crept back to 4-3 with wins by Bruno Rosa at No. 1 and Christoph Müller at No. 2.
The Owls will take on C-USA rival Tulsa on Sunday at 11 am to wrap up their weekend trip to Oklahoma.
