Owls Rally For 5-2 Win Over Southern Miss

The 31st-ranked Rice Owls men's tennis team rallied back from a loss in doubles to win five of six singles matches at take a 5-2 decision over Southern Miss on Sunday. The match was moved indoors to the Galleria Tennis Center due to continued rains in the Houston area.
The Golden Eagles grabbed the doubles point by taking the matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and added a second point with a win at No.1 singles, but the Owls struck back with straight-set wins at No. 2 (Bruno Rosa), No.3 (Sam Garaforth-Bles), No. 4 (Isamu Tachibana) and No. 5 (Dennis Polyakov) to clinch the match. Freshman Christian Saravia then won a third-set tie breaker at No. 6 to close out the match.
The Owls will be back on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Austin to take on 10th-ranked Texas at 6 p.m. They return home this weekend for matches against Texas Pan American, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and San Diego State as part of the 51st Annual Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invitational.
