The 31st-ranked Rice Owls men's tennis team moved indoors for their first home match since the end of January, but the 51st ranked Duke Blue Devils spoiled the homecoming by taking a 4-2 decision at the Met Tennis and Racquet Club in downtown Houston.
The match was moved indoors due to steady rains in the Houston area and the location for the Owls' Sunday matchup with Conference USA foe Southern Miss will be determined at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. If weather permits, the match will be held at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. If not, the match will move indoors to the Galleria Tennis Center.
Duke (7-3) grabbed the doubles point thanks to a 9-7 win over Bruno Rosa and Isamu Tachibana at the No. 2 slot, however Rosa and Tachibana rallied to win their singles matches to give the Owls' their two points. Rosa, ranked 49th in singles, defeated 53rd-ranked Kiril Dimitrov. Duke clinched the match with wins at No. 3, No.4 and No. 5. The No. 1 singles match between 37th-ranked Christoph Müller of Rice and 25th ranked Reid Carleton of Duke was discontinued after splitting the first two sets.
