
Rice Plays Host to North Texas Saturday

Rice closes out a stretch of three games in seven days on Saturday as the Owls plays host to North Texas. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. in Tudor Fieldhouse. The game can be heard in Houston on ESPN 97.5 as well as via the worldwide web at RiceOwls.com.
In addition to wrapping up a busy week, Saturday's game comes right before finals at Rice. The Owls will not play for the next 10 days before returning to the hardwood Dec. 16th against Santa Clara.
Rice is 0-2 for the week, having lost at home to No. 2 Texas 77-59 on Sunday before dropping an 85-64 decision on the road at Harvard on Wednesday.
Rice sophomore forward Emerson Herndon registered career scoring highs in both games. He finished with eight points against Texas before playing a career-high 19 minutes off the bench at Harvard where he finished with 13 points and three rebounds.
The Owls currently do not have a player averaging double figures when it comes to scoring. The starting backcourt tandem of Connor Frizzelle and Tamir Jackson are the team's co-leaders in scoring, averaging 9.5 points per game.
Junior center Trey Stanton is averaging 15.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over the last three games while shooting 56.7 percent from the field. Stanton began the season by making just 4-of-18 field goal attempts before scoring a career high 23 points against Furman. He has now scored in double figures in each of the Owls' last three games.
North Texas is coming off a 91-62 win over the University of the Southwest on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mean Green are led by junior guard Josh White who is averaging a team-leading 17.7 points per game. White, who played along side Rice transfer Stuart Pirri at Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge, La., has made 12-of-26 three-pointers (46.2 percent). White is shooting 55.7 percent from the field and leads North Texas with 28 assists.
Senior forward Eric Tramiel, a preseason first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection is averaging 12.2 points an outing but missed Wednesday's game with a minor ankle injury. Junior George Odufuwa is one point shy of averaging a double-double. Odufuwu is averaging 9.8 points and 11 rebounds.
